NEW YORK — Though he’s lost many fans after being captured on video hurling racist epithets at a comedy club audience, Michael Richards has an ally: Mel Gibson.
I swore to myself I wouldn’t talk about this, but yet, here I am. As most of you who know me are aware, I have a general distaste for television. Particularly that of the reality and sitcom varieties. However, this garbage refuses to go away, and it leads me to run around screaming, “Why on Earth do we give a damn?!”
Seriously. Why? I’m not condoning what Michael Richards did, but why does it matter? Why are we so bound up about it? Mr. Richards is a pedestrian talent at best. If anybody really cared about him, why would he be doing stand up comedy at the Laugh Factory? He’s not even a has been. He’s a never was.
There’s a disconnect in the logic though, and here’s what it is:
“I want to make it abundantly clear: if there’s anyone who believes that these youngsters want to fight, as the Pentagon and some generals have said, you can just forget about it. No young, bright individual wants to fight just because of a bonus and just because of educational benefits. And most all of them come from communities of very, very high unemployment. If a young fella has an option of having a decent career or joining the army to fight in Iraq, you can bet your life that he would not be in Iraq.”
“For the second time in less than two weeks, CNN’s Bill Schneider has advised the Republican Party that the path to success lies in moving to the left.”
You know that old saying, “He’s got his head up his ass”? Well this is way worse than that. This is akin to cave diving for colon cancer. I don’t watch CNN for obvious reasons, but I’ll tell you what, I want Bill Schneider’s job. I want to be able to completely make crap up and get paid for it.
I don’t know what planet this guy has been living on, but the Republicans lost the legislature because they *moved left* They refused to get tough on the border, and they spent like sailors at a strip club. This alienated some of the base to a degree, and it allowed the Democrats to put forth the nine “Blue Dog” conservative candidates to woo the less informed of us out there.
Looks like Mr. Schneider is one of the uninformed, doesn’t it?
