I know it’s been a while, but I’m still in a lot of pain and pumped full of narcotics.

In the meantime, get an eyeful of my Buddy Mark’s new son Jacob.

Art’s blog has been strangely quiet lately. That’s not particularly odd, as sometimes he is, as he puts it, “somewhat uninspired.” That isn’t the case as of right now, however. As you may have learned, if you’ve been following the RizWords podcast recently is that he has been in the hospital, and thusly incommunicado.

Here’s the scoop: He broke his back Sunday night in the bathroom after slipping, getting out of the shower. His roommate was not at home, so he heroically crawled his way around the house to find a telephone to dial 911. The paramedics rushed him to the hospital and found that he had crushed one of his lumbars, but there was no spinal cord damage, thankfully.

The few times I’ve spoken with him on the phone, he’s been heavily medicated on “three kinds of dope,” so details are somewhat sketchy, but apparently the course that the hospital is taking is moderate amounts of physical therapy and time to attempt to heal the back injury. Unfortunately for Art (and his fans), while his laptop works there, the internet connection apparently doesn’t, so he’ll be out of communications range for several days.

Close friends and fans wishing to relay messages to Art may either leave comments here or email me personally, and I’ll relate your calls and sentiments to Art the next time I speak to him.

(I erroneously reported on my show today that he was back from the hospital, so apologies for the confusion there. I saw his Mom’s cell caller ID on my Skype line, and assumed he was with his mom while he recuperated. He is in fact still at the hospital.)
