RNC Random Thoughts: Day 1 - Oh Noes, It’s Raining!
Published by Art September 1st, 2008 in Politics, Media, Republican National Convention '08This is about right. I wait all week for the Republican Convention, and what happens? It rains in NOLA, the convention is cut short, and the whole world stops spinning.
Alright, look. I know it’s more than just rain, but is this what we have come to now? Have we saddled ourselves with so much undeserved “white guilt” that we need national coverage on every channel everytime it spits in New Orleans? Why must the whole world stop for this? I just don’t get it.
Let me be clear. I don’t want anyone to get hurt. I don’t want anyone to die. But do I really need to see a soaking wet Sheperd Smith standing out in the rain going, “Yeah, it sure is windy out here Megyn!” for 17 straight hours?
No thanks. I’ll pass. I mean, what do you people want me to do about it? It’s kind of morbid really. Perhaps I should sit glued to the TV and repeatedly ask “Did NOLA sink yet? Did NOLA sink yet?”
I understand the sentiment of canceling today’s activities, especially those of the President. But in reality, what good does it do? Why does everybody else have to book off like they are going to fly down there and huck sandbags when everybody else knows differently?
The media, that’s why. We all know exactly what will happen. Instead of asking the real question, ie: “Did Ray Nagin screw up yet, and if so, how badly?” (He still has $13B in unused levee funding, by the way.) No, no! The question will be “How did Bush and Cheney sneak their” Hurricane Maker” into the RNC without being noticed? Those racist bastards!”
Cue four subsequent days of nonstop ragging.
Meanwhile, we’d have the Most Merciful Obama ™ strapping on his cape, flying down to NOLA and holding back the floodwaters with is oh-so-powerful mind.
So now, what are we stuck with? Cindy McCain on opening night. Yeah, that’s what I wanted. What a load of crap this is.
