The Cow Says “Mooooooooo”

“Scientists on Wednesday changed the time on Chicago’s Doomsday Clock two minutes closer to midnight, or the apocalypse, based on what they said is the ‘most perilous period since Hiroshima and Nagasaki,’ during dual announcements in London and Washington, D.C.”

For those of you who don’t know, the Doomsday Clock is a symbolic clockface maintained since 1947 by the Board of Directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists at the University of Chicago. It uses the analogy of the human race being at a time that is “minutes to midnight” where midnight represents destruction by nuclear war. The clock has appeared on the cover of each issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists since its introduction.

The number of minutes before midnight, a measure of the degree of nuclear threat, is updated periodically. The clock is currently set to five minutes to midnight, having been advanced by two minutes on January 17, 2007.

My question is, *who cares*?

I’m far from a scientist, but something tells me that these guys should be spending more time splitting atoms or something like that. Not that I trust anything that involves scientists anyway, because, the people in white coats who talk about global warming are the same people who were warning us of the coming ice age in the 1970’s.

“Let’s make up some crap, and call a newspaper.”

These guys aren’t policymakers, why anybody pays any attention to a croup of men playing with a cardboard clock is beyond me. (Yes, that’s what it is, and they move it arbitrarily, by hand.)

Man, are we stupid.

May as well just get a ‘See-And-Say’ and use that. It’s just as valid.
