Why We Love Tony

I had hoped I would meet Tony Snow one day. In fact, I was certain I would, and soon.
Unfortunately, his cancer had other plans.
Have you ever felt that even though you’ve never met a person, you were absolutely certain that person was a cool guy? Well, take 10 minutes, watch this video, and get a glimpse of Tony Snow. For me, he was one of those cool guys.

Whether you agreed with his politics or not, he was a joy to watch and listen to. His demeanor was infectious. You could tell he loved his his life, his job, and everyone around him. He was quick-witted,unflappable, and as much as I hate to use the word, because I don’t necessarily believe in the concept, Tony Snow was…fair.

As for his colon cancer, he battled his disease with ferocity and discussed it with a candor few have seen. I’ve seen what stage 4 cancer does first hand, and I can tell you, seeing someone as sick as he was do what he did (and deftly, at that) amazes me. In spite of it all, he never wavered from his responsibilities or his principles. While his convictons were deep, he always struck me as more of a cheerleader than a crusader. But unlike most people, Tony always seemed genuine. Never fake or contrived.

I was often dishearted by people who don’t agree with *my* politics would try to tell me what a “liar” Tony Snow was. This assessment is not only rude, it’s ignorant, because a lot of people weren’t or aren’t smart enough to separate the man from his position. It was this man’s *job* to be the spokeman for the President. This was a duty he accepted of his own free will, and believe me, someone as smart as Tony knows what that job entails. His disagreements with some or our current policies were well documented before he took the job. Anyone with a shred of intelligence knows that. Tony Snow has served in the White House more than once. He answered that call whenever it was asked of him, and he did it well.

Thanks, Tony.
